Socialist MSP ?appalled? by blind woman's eviction Scottish Socialist MSP Tommy Sheridan has been referred to the Standards Committee for trying to stop the eviction of a blind woman from her council home. Ms Haylott, 20, voluntarily left her home in Dalkeith, near Edinburgh, yesterday following a morning raid by the police. Neighbours and supporters moved in to help the woman when officers broke down the door. The eviction came after Ms Haylott broke up with her partner, the official tenant of the council house, and he took legal action against her. Mr Sheridan became involved in the case after Ms Haylott?s own MSP ? fisheries minister Rhona Brankin ? failed to provide her with the support she required. Mr Sheridan said: "I am appalled at the treatment Vicky Haylott has received. I am annoyed that Labour MSPs seem more interested in parliamentary protocol than in protecting their constituents. " The matter is now in the hands of Sir David Steel, The Scottish Parliament's Presiding Officer. Posted: 03/05/2001
