Businessman bailed over 'sick' sex attack

A 21-year-old businessman has given himself up after a ?sick? sex attack on a female wheelchair-user last week.

The man ? who has yet to be named ? came forward after being caught on CCTV cameras shortly after attacking the woman on a train travelling between Longfield and Swanley in Kent.

The victim, who is in her forties and suffers from multiple sclerosis had been helped into the guard's van for the 90-minute journey, but was joined within minutes by a young man in a pin-striped suit who said he wanted to smoke.

"He then started to assault the women who was completely helpless," said Detective Inspector Alistair Cumming from the British Transport Police. "He fondled her and told her he was into disabled women.

"At the station, a cyclist tried to get into the guard's van with his bike but was told by the man, 'Piss off, can't you see I need some privacy'."

The cyclist, who is being traced by police, left the man alone with the victim, who was then subjected to a 14 minute sexual attack.

"The man got off the train at Longfield station, leaving the woman in a distressed state," said Mr Cummings. "This attack was as sick as can be imagined."

The suspect presented himself to British Transport Police accompanied by his lawyer just days after Mr Cumming had told press, "someone would surely recognise him from the photographs."

The suspect was detained by detectives who questioned him for several hours, after which he was bailed to return on 8 October.

The woman is now at home in South Wales where she is said to be "suffering serious psychological scars from the attack."
