Driving force awarded OBE
A leading disabled drivers' campaigner has said he was "shocked, stunned and thrilled" after receiving an OBE in the New Years? Honours list. Douglas Campbell, Executive Director of the Disabled Drivers' Association (DDA), has championed the rights of disabled motorists for three decades. Speaking with Youreable, he described the moment in November when he realized that an A4 envelope in the morning's post marked 'HM services', "was not just some political junk from the Labour party?. Instead the letter was inviting him to accept an OBE from HRH the Queen. He said: "It's nice to be honoured for 30 years of cajoling and nagging ministers." Douglas will visit the palace in the next few months to receive the award. The DDA was founded in 1948 as a voice for disabled drivers and passengers. It currently has more than 24,000 members.
