Twin Towers' guide dogs honoured
Two guide dogs have been honoured after saving the lives of their owners following the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre. Guide Dogs for the Blind UK have commended the courage and dedication of Roselle, a yellow labrador who led her owner, Mike Hingson, down 78 flights of stairs and Salty, who rescued her owner Omar Rivera from the wreckage. The presentation was held on Monday at the Assistance Dogs International meeting in Texas, where each dog was awarded a trophy. Geraldine Peacock, Guide Dogs UK's Chief Executive, said: "Time and time again we are humbled by the sheer devotion guide dogs demonstrate towards their owners. "However, the bravery that both these dogs showed when facing the dreadful conditions in the Twin Towers and leading their owners to safety is quite extraordinary." Tim Merricks 18 Jan, 2002
