Sports minister to open World Games The new Minister for Sport, Richard Caborn, will join Paralympic President Bob Steadward on Monday to open the biggest disability sporting event ever staged, the CP-ISRA World Games. Despite funding worries earlier this year the Nottingham-based games, for people with cerebral palsy, have attracted a record number of entries. Almost 1000 athletes will be attending from 45 countries. The games feature seven sports, including athletics, swimming, football, cycling and powerlifting. Among those taking part will be Paralympic hero Lloyd Upsdell, the Essex teenager who set new world records in the 100 and 200m, and a number of other Sydney medal winners including Chris Martin, Paul Williams and Danny West. Games Director Colin Rains said: "We are delighted that the new Minister of Sport has agreed to join us and that is a reflection of the importance of the event." "Despite the difficulties we have had in financing the Games, the stage is set for a major event in disability sport and I hope the people of Nottingham will rally round and support it."
