Stannah helps blind pensioner abseil to his dream
Stannah Stairlifts has had entries flooding in from around the country since the launch of one of its most exciting initiatives earlier this year, the Think Again Fund - Created to make older people realise their dreams. The latest lucky winner is 71 year old Michael Hartley from Kendal who, despite his progressing years, is a fully fledged adrenaline junky. In 1986 Michael was registered blind and feared that his more exciting ambitions would never be realised due to his disability but Stannah Stairlifts were inspired by Michael's zest for life and were eager to help him with his dream of rock climbing and abseiling. He said: "In 1986 I thought this dream, along with almost everything else, had come to an end but I was wrong. Now I know that blindness does not mean the end of the world and life is once again worth while." So, in July of this year Michael, accompanied by an instructor, spent an entire day climbing treacherous mountain sides in Cumbria, and abseiling down awesome rock faces. MD of Stannah Lift Services, Jon Stannah, recently commented, "It's fantastic that we've played a part in making Michael's wish a reality. His courage is extraordinary and inspiring. The Think Again Fund's success is that it gives over 50s, like Michael, the chance to realise long-forgotten ambitions. Long may it continue." Anyone over 50 living in the UK can apply to receive money from Stannah's Think Again Fund. The application form can be obtained by calling 020 7360 7825 or downloaded from http://www.stannahstairlifts.co.uk/media/pdfs/thinkagain_lozenge.pdf One person each month will be selected to receive a portion of the fund to put towards fulfilling their dreams. So, if you have always wanted to achieve something but just didn't know how, please download an application form now and let us know what you want to do and why. Each month until December 2007 we will be selecting one winner and helping them live their dream, it could be you!
