Your Local Cinema .com
Over 100 cinemas in the U.K. can provide an audio description service to visually impaired people - audio described cinema enables visually impaired people to enjoy film, presented in its original, and best form - the cinema. It's similar to listening to a cricket or football match on the radio, having the action described to you. Or like listening to an audio book on cassette. The normal film soundtrack comes through the cinemas surround sound speakers in the normal way and a recorded narrator explains what's happening on screen - in gaps in the dialogue - through personal headphones. In a multiplex cinema the system is usually installed in one auditorium only,
although some cinemas have installed it in more than one, and some have a portable
version which can be moved from screen to screen. If 'a.d.' files are available
for a film (which is usually the case for most popular films), then every screening
of that film - in the auditorium with the system installed - can be an audio
described show. The system does not interfere with 'normal' shows because the
a.d. is broadcast through personal, wireless headphones. Call us on 0845 056 9824, (local rate, manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week). Or, to have the listings read to you over the phone, dial 087 0222 0333 (national rate, automated, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week). To navigate simply use the 1, 3 and 5 buttons on your phone to move back and forth through the links. 1 to go back, 3 to go forward and 5 to read an article. To find your local cinema visit:
