Gillian Merron presents Motability car to Lincoln resident
Lincoln MP and Transport Minister, Gillian Merron, presented the key of a new Motability car to one of her constituents, Terry Hogben, on Friday 22 June 2007. The presentation took place at 2.00pm at Dixon Nissan, Tritton Road, Lincoln. A Parliamentary Patron of Motability, Gillian Merron said: "Motability does an excellent job addressing the mobility needs of disabled people, helping them to maintain independence and live life to the full. It is a pleasure to be associated with the Scheme and to present Terry with his new car." Terry, 58, has lived in Lincoln all his life and contracted Polio when he was a baby. He has always walked with the aid of callipers to support his legs and nowadays needs to use a wheelchair or scooter most of the time. "I wouldn't be able to go very far without my Motability car and my new one is a Nissan Micra," explained Terry. "I first decided to use my mobility allowance in exchange for a Scheme car back in the 80s, when I was looking for an automatic. I haven't looked back since and enjoy being able to come and go as I please without having to rely on other people. Having a car also allows me to meet my commitments as Vice Chairman of my local branch of the British Polio Fellowship." Don Brereton CB, Director of Motability, commented: "We are delighted that Gillian Merron will be able to join us and show her continued support of the Scheme. Terry is one of over 450,000 disabled people throughout the UK enjoying the benefits of leasing a Motability car. Customer satisfaction is a priority and our worry-free package includes tax, insurance, maintenance and breakdown cover. All Terry will have to do is pay for the fuel - we wish him many happy miles of motoring." www.motability.co.uk
