DLF successful once again in the ICT Hub Awards

The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) is delighted to announce that its online self assessment tool AskSARA has received a commendation at the ICT Hub Awards 2008 in the category of Most Innovative Use of ICT.

The DLF has previously been commended at the 2007 Awards for Most Effective Use of ICT for its database DLF Data, while AskSARA has also been shortlisted for the eWellBeing Awards 2008.

AskSARA is an innovative way for older and disabled people and their families to obtain advice about equipment that can help them in their daily lives. AskSARA asks you to enter information about yourself and your environment.

It then provides you with a detailed report based on your answers that offers useful advice and suggests products that might be of help to you. To try AskSARA, visit www.asksara.org.uk.

The ICT Hub Awards highlight and celebrate the achievements of organisations in the voluntary and community sector who demostrate exemplary use of IT. It is part of the ChangeUp programme managed by Capacity Builders for strengthening the capacity of the voluntary and community sector.

The award panel commended the DLF for its use of ICT in regard to developing AskSARA for community equipment and improving accessibility for people with learning disabilities. The panel felt the DLF's innovative approach to using ICT has made a real difference to service users.

Nicole Penn-Symons, Chief Executive of the DLF, says "Our success for the second year running at the ICT Hub Awards is a great reflection on the hard work of our IT team. Much effort has been put into utilising technology in creative ways to ensure the best service for our users".

Further information and images Please contact Hugh Dobie, Marketing Officer, Disabled Living Foundation on tel 020 7289 6111 ext 211 or email hugh.dobie@dlf.org.uk.

The DLF also provides a range of online services at www.dlf.org.uk, including free factsheets giving advice on a wide range of topics about disability and mobility products and choosing equipment for older and disabled people
