Paralympic World Cup confirms record participation
A record 400 athletes from 45 different countries, including 78 British competitors, will compete at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester from May 7 - 11. Last year, 340 of the world's best Paralympic athletes from 47 countries competed in the event, building up the event again from the previous two editions. "I am delighted that a record number of athletes will be competing in an extended competition programme at this year's Paralympic World Cup in Manchester," said ParalympicsGB chief executive Phil Lane. "This event in the past three years has proven to be an excellent show-case of some of the world's best athletes with a disability and it's sure to be just as intense in 2008, a Paralympic year." The Paralympic World Cup is hosted by the British Paralympic Association and is sanctioned by the IPC and IWBF, supported by UK Sport, Manchester City Council and the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA). The BBC has again committed to cover the event as they continue to showcase elite disability sport ahead of the Paralympics.
