Dave's Disability Inspires Business Success as Online Gallery Celebrates
3000 Artworks Milestone
An art gallery website owned by a Swindon man with cerebral palsy is on target to be the first in the UK to include more than 10,000 individual pieces of affordable artwork from both artists and galleries. Interest from throughout the world - as far away as India - has already helped to establish more than 3000 different artwork items since www.exactlywhatiwant.co.uk first went online less than 18 months ago. Dave Plotkin's belief in the website is powered by his own frustrations. Dave has cerebral palsy and as a wheel chair user looking for a simple sunset in local galleries was faced with inaccessible doorways and staircases to circumnavigate as he viewed. Dave adds, "I just gave up to be honest. But it's surprising how, when you channel all that frustration, something good can come of it. I'm delighted with how well things are going. I've launched a successful online gallery on target to have more than 10,000 artworks. And that can't be bad." And Exactlywhatiwant.co.uk owner Dave Plotkin believes the 10,000 milestone is only just around the corner thanks to features which help his business to stand out from the rest. The website is still a labour of love for Dave who helps to scan and upload images, as well as liaising with galleries personally each time a buyer registers an interest. Dave said, "We've started something a bit special here and I'm excited to see it established as the best on the internet. It's all about giving the customers as much choice of quality artwork as possible. That's what keeps them buying. And our membership rates are crazily good value which keeps the galleries and artists happy." "The other sites like this are all automated and, I think, faceless. Exactlywhaitiwant.co.uk is different. I'm on the phone up to three hours a day talking to artists and galleries on behalf of our customers. They appreciate the personal touch." "This is a business, and I'm enjoying all the extra work required to establish it in these early stages. But when we get to 10,000 I know we'll be the website of choice for thousands of art buyers throughout the world. I can't wait." Artists can submit artwork for as little as £45 a year.
