More miles from Motability cars
The mileage allowance for Motability customers has increased by an additional 15,000 miles to 60,000 miles for a three-year contract. This means that drivers can now travel further during their three year lease, without incurring any excess mileage charges. Mike Betts, chief executive, Motability Operations explained: "The increased mileage allowance has been introduced to improve the worry-free nature of the Motability car scheme and is being extremely positively received by customers." "Those who live in rural areas, or who use their Motability car for frequent hospital visits, will find the additional mileage allowance particularly useful. The more-miles policy applies to both existing customers and new. We hope that anyone who has found the mileage allowance a barrier in the past will reconsider the Motability car scheme." In addition to the mileage allowance increase from 45,000 miles to 60,000 miles for contract hire users, customers with a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) on a five year agreement can now enjoy a total of 100,000 miles over the period of their contract. Existing customers on the Motability scheme do not need to apply to be eligible for the changes as the increase will automatically apply to everyone. Supporting the development, Helen Smith, Director of Policy and Campaigns at Mobilise, an organisation representing disabled motorists, said: "As an organisation promoting greater mobility for disabled people we warmly welcome customer service enhancements to the Motability car scheme that will improve the daily lives of our members." "The increased mileage allowance will enable people to enjoy the mobility a car allows without worrying about any financial implications of using it as much as they require in order to enjoy their day to day lives." The Motability Car Scheme delivers affordable motoring solutions for disabled people and their families. Anyone who receives the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement can use this to pay for the lease of a brand new car. The payment includes comprehensive insurance, maintenance and breakdown cover. Over 300 makes and models are available with no further payment. Customers can also choose from cars carrying an advance payment depending on their own personal budget. No credit checks or further medical assessments are required and customers can receive a new car every three years.
