Health and Disability Sector's Best Training on Awards Shortlist
Thirteen organisations and individuals from the health and disability sector have reached the finals of this year's National Training Awards. The awards celebrate people and organisations that achieve outstanding success through training and development. The finalists from the health and disability sector are: Health and Caring - Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - Choices Housing Association - Edinburgh's Telford College in partnership with NHS Lothian, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and NHS Highland - Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - Mersey Care NHS Trust in partnership with Prison Officers Association and Knowsley Community College - Peterborough Primary Care Trust in partnership with Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - Risedale Estates Limited - University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust in partnership with Stoke on Trent College Disability - Autism Jersey - Redbridge Community Housing Ltd (RCHL), Ilford, Essex in partnership with Performance Coaching International, Upminster, Essex - RNIB College Loughborough In addition, the following individuals working in the health and disability sector have also made the shortlist: - Julie Embleton, Ashington - Lisa Earl, Barnsley The National Training Awards are run on behalf of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills by UK Skills, a not-for-profit organisation which champions vocational skills and learning for work. UK Skills Chief Executive, Jacqui Henderson CBE, congratulated the finalists, saying that they displayed qualities of entrepreneurship that UK plc could learn from. "Each finalist has considered where they want to be in the future. They've taken a well-calculated risk to invest in specific training aimed at moving them on to a better position than they were in before, either as an organisation or an individual. This has brought them opportunities and substantial returns." "We need more employers and employees to take that risk for their company or for themselves. Here at UK Skills we have put our money where our mouth is and signed the government's skills pledge to train our staff to NVQ Level 3." "Training is the responsibility of all of us whether we're running our own business, an employee or in charge of a large corporation." There are 187 finalists in this year's awards. Winners will be announced at a series of ceremonies held throughout the UK between September and November.
