The National Key Scheme The National Key Scheme (NKS) offers independent access to public toilets throughout the UK. If you do not already have a key, it may be worth getting one before you leave on your holiday. The Scheme was introduced because it became necessary to lock public toilets to protect against vandalism, misuse and to reduce costs. To make these toilets readily available, providers have been asked to join the NKS. This involves fitting standard locks to their toilets and making keys available to people with disabilities.
