AFASIC Activity Weeks offer a wide range of outdoor and indoor activities for children and young people who have speech or language difficulties. Each week is run by a support team, which includes a speech therapist, and every child is linked with a young adult volunteer who becomes a constant companion throughout the week.

Aims to provide activity holidays with support and accommodation for people with special needs. Sited between Aviemore and the Cairngorm chairlift, near Loch Morlich Water Sports Centre, Badaguish provides a base with a wide choice of activities in the surrounding area. The centre provides respite care activity holidays for unaccompanied disabled people. For groups, accommodation is in all season log cabins and bunkhouses. Support from Centre staff is available as required to help with programming, organisation and direct care.

A wide variety of outdoor and indoor activities available, regardless of ability. Tailored programmes designed to meet the needs of each group. Activity weeks available for individuals. The Lodge can accommodate up to 35 people, and facilities have been adapted for the needs of disabled people. A fully equipped separate annexe is also available, which can be hired by self-catering groups.

The Association, formed to help disabled people learn to water ski, has regional offices, bases, and water facilities near Staines in Middlesex, London and Lancashire. Courses there and elsewhere in the country are held for about ten people at a time and there are also beginner's days for individuals.

The Calvert Trust is a converted Cumbrian Farmstead in the north of the Lake District, providing fully serviced accommodation for disabled people. All bedrooms en-suite with access throughout. Facilities include swimming pool and sauna, games room, sports hall with unique tilting climbing wall. Qualified instructors. Courses include; horseriding, sailing, canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, orienteering and camping. Outings to local places of interest.

In addition, personal development programmes are offered and in-service training for teachers and carers. The Centre, a converted farm, accommodates 45 people and has an indoor swimming pool, nature reserve and attractive grounds. The nearby River Fowey is used for water based activities and the coast is five miles away. Personal care is available and a nurse is on call at night.

Coldwell Activity Centre, Back Lane, Southfield, Burnley BB10 3RG, phone: (01282) 601819. The Centre provides facilities and activities for a wide range of users with varying disabilities. It is within easy reach of local facilities and yet surrounded by beautiful countryside and overlooking the Coldwell Reservoir. The range of activities includes horseriding, waterski-ing, abseiling, aromatherapy, T-shirt painting and many others. A full list is available on request. The centre is available to only one group at a time, and can sleep up to 21. The facilities include full central heating, large well-equipped kitchen, lounge, dining room, games room, shower rooms and five bedrooms. There is easy wheelchair access. Groups visit on either full board or self-catering basis.

Entrance has level and ramped access 72". Adapted ground floor bathroom, ground floor and first floor adapted WCs. Recreation and dining room on first floor via lift. Minimum age accepted is eight years.
