Disabled Persons Railcard

To be eligible for concessions on your train travel, you should apply for a Disabled Persons Railcard (Disabled Persons Railcard).

You will qualify if you:

  • are registered as having eyesight difficulties;
  • are registered deaf or use an NHS hearing aid;
  • have epilepsy and have repeated attacks even though you receive drug treatment;
  • receive Attendance Allowance;
  • receive Disability Living Allowance (at the higher rate or lower rate for getting around (mobility) for one year or longer or at the higher or middle rate for helpwith personal care);
  • receive Severe Disablement Allowance;
  • receive long-term Incapacity Benefit;
  • receive War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement;
  • receive War or Service Disablement Pension for 80% or more disability;
    or
  • are buying or leasing a vehicle through the mobility scheme.
The Railcard will entitle you to discounts of up to a third on a range of rail tickets. Your companion will also be able to travel at the reduced fare.

Five to 16 year olds may also qualify for a Disabled Person's Railcard, if they can meet at least one of the above conditions. Although they only need to pay the normal child's fare, an adult can travel with them at the discounted rate of one-third off the standard adult fare.

The one-year railcard costs £18 and is valid for 12 months.

The three-year railcard costs £48.

You must show your Railcard when you purchase your tickets or, if you are ringing up for your ticket, tell the operator that you have a Railcard. You must take your Railcard with you on all train journeys as you may be asked to show your card with your discounted ticket.
