Benefits and Appeals

Debbie
Joint moderator, Benefits and Appeals
I'm in my 40s, single and live in Cornwall. I have CP and use a wheelchair fulltime. I used to be a secretary in a Social Services day centre for people with learning disabilities, which is where I began helping people with benefits problems. I have also been a secretary in a hospital unit for people with profound learning disabilities, the same unit also provided outpatients services for people with mental health needs.
I have done voluntary work with a local charity for disabled people, I was an advocate, helping clients get the services and benefits they needed. I have experience of being a DWP appointee, which involves being responsible for claiming benefits on behalf of someone unable to do this for themselves.
I love travelling and have been to Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore, amongst other places.
