Choosing a car seat and harness The guidelines on carrying children in cars have changed, new rules governing the use of car seats came into force on 18th September 2006. It is the drivers responsibility that the child is correctly restrained. Children under 3 years must use the child restraint appropriate for their weight in any vehicle. There is only one exception. A child under three may travel unrestrained in the rear of a taxi if the right child restraint is unavailable. Under 3's must travel unstrestrained in the rear of a vehicle only. Rearward Facing Baby Seats (Group 0 &0+) 0 - Babies up to 22lbs which is roughly birth to 6-9 months old. Read facing baby seats must not be used in a seat protected by a frontal air bag. 0+ - Babies up to 29lbs which is roughly birth to 12-15 months old. Forward Facing Child Seats (Group 1)
