Environment Agency

Water Resources Policy Advisor
£27,100 - £30,800 + benefits
Cardiff

Do you want to help us secure the best use of water resources for Wales? The pressures on our water resources are growing. More houses are being built, our population is increasing, and we are all using more water.

Climate change will only add to these pressures and will mean we are likely to have less reliable water resources in future. The Environment Agency is responsible for managing the water resources of England and Wales.

We must ensure that there is sufficient water for the environment, public supply and for other human uses. Safeguarding our water resources for the future is a big challenge.

Working with colleagues in our Wales and Head Office policy units, you will help to develop the Environment Agency's water resources policies and ensure that they fully reflect the needs and priorities of Wales.

You will work closely with the Welsh Assembly Government, providing support to their policy-making, and you will work with and influence a range of stakeholders across Wales to ensure that our policies are supported.

Your work will span a broad range of technical and strategic water resources management issues, including abstraction management policy, water efficiency and demand management options, the update of our Water Resources Strategy for Wales, and important new work on the Water Framework Directive.

With a sound understanding of water resources management issues, probably achieved through significant experience in water resources, hydrology or a related field you will also possess excellent communication and influencing skills.

The ability to work within demanding and challenging timeframes will be key to your success.

This is an exciting time to be involved in water resources management.

If you would like to help deliver a sustainable future for water resources in Wales then we want to hear from you.
