Environment Agency

Senior Scientist
Bath
£27,100 - £30,800 + benefits

The Environment Agency is the leading public body for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales. It's our job to make sure that air, land and water are looked after by everyone in today's society, so that tomorrow's generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world.

Join us, and the work you do will make a lasting difference.

Our Science Department is setting the agenda for the Environment Agency's future: You will work with GIS data to test and implement new environmental models, and use ESRI products including ArcServer to develop Enterprise level GIS systems.

You will also be involved with developing new data techniques and technologies for dealing with the growing need for information across the business. You will be working with internal and external parties to develop prototype enterprise software systems, applying them to solving real environmental issues.

This is leading-edge, innovative work: you should be able to work on your own as well as part of a team, and work flexibly on other Science projects as priorities change. Experience in GIS modelling is essential, as is the willingness to program with several different languages.

You should have a relevant degree, ideally a postgraduate qualification and a background in environmental science would be an advantage. You should possess a high level of numeracy. There will be training provided to support the successful candidate.

This is initially a 12-month position, with good prospects for a permanent position.
