Job Seekers Allowance

There are two types of this benefit. Contribution Based where you must have paid NI contributions and Income Based, which is means tested.

Contribution Based JSA is paid for a maximum of 6 months.

Income based can be paid on its own or as a top up to Contribution Based.

The rules for income based JSA are the same as for IS.

The only difference is that to get JSA you must sign on as avaibable for and actively seeking work.
