Expenses

Increased day to day expenses

You might find that if you become disabled you may be less mobile and will spend more time at home. This could lead to spending more money on heating your home. You may also have increased costs such as looking after and feeding a working dog if you are visually impaired.

Large single purchases

You may need to buy large items such as a wheelchair or scooter or make adjustments to your car. You may need to purchase a stairlift or a hoist. These are all costly purchases which need to be accounted and budgeted for.

Higher travel costs

If you need to visit the hospital or the doctors more often than you did before you may find that you spend more money on petrol. If you used public transport in the past but find it is difficult to use it now you may have to find a more expensive way of getting around, such as taxis.

Reduced income

Becoming disabled can have an affect on your ability to work or other willingness to give you work.
If you are unable to work or can only work reduced hours your monthly income will be reduced.
