You can still get CTC for a young person until they reach the age of 20 if they continue in full-time non-advanced education or training.
You can carry on getting Child Benefit for your child up until their 20th birthday, if they're in education or training that counts for Child Benefit.
Education or training counts for Child Benefit as long as it's either of the following:
full-time, 'non-advanced' education (for example 'A' levels)
'approved' training
Your child needs to have started, enrolled or been accepted for one of these types of courses before the age of 19.
You can't get Child Benefit if your child is doing:
- higher education, such as a course at university level
- education provided by an employer
- education provided through any office they hold - for example if your child has an official role such as scout leader or councillor, and the - - - education is provided as part of that role
- training that is part of a job contract
It's only what I read - hope it helps.

Ring child benefit and explain your son is still at college. As long as he started the current course before he became 19, child benefit can pay till he is 20. Ask for backdating of benefit as well.

If your child is staying in education or training

If your son started his current course before he turned 19, then you are still entitled to claim Child Benefit untill he is aged 20. But if he started a new course after he became 19, then you cannot get child Benefit but can still get Child Tax Credits.
So ring Child Benefit if he started this course before the age of 19 and reclaim.

My son did start the course before he turned 19 but when i rang child benefit and asked why it was not payed up untill he was 20, as child tax credit was payable up untill 16 of November, the guy on the phone said it was only payable up till September.
Should i ring again and ask to speak to a manager or should i speak to a benefit advisor for them to ring child benefit and sort this matter out as because i was not receiving child benefit but i did receive child tax credit, i was not entitled to full housing benefit as they said i was not in receipt of child benefit.
What should i do.

Ring Child Benefit again, tell them you have seen the Direct Gov website ( see the link posted above by Treborc in post 6) and tell them the web site tells you that child benefit can be paid untill the age of 20 where the child started the course before the age of 19.
