hi everyone, really need some help as im at my wits end with worry,i have various mental illnesses..but i was also made an appointee for my then 16 year old son(hes now 23 and im still his appointee)this is abit drawn out but ill try to be quick..after being very badly bullied at school at 11 my son had a nervous breakdown n i was told by my doctors he needed to be taken out of school as "he was at the end of his line and wouldnt be able to take anymore"si i did remove him from school and the local council provided 2 tutors that came to my home weekly as my son just wasnt able to go out anymore(diagnosed with agorophobia)he saw numerous doctors/psychitristss over the years but they all said they couldnt help until he realises he had a problem anyway it went on like this till last november when my son started talking online to some girl that had been in his situation, she started to come to my house every weekend trying to help him,at first she managed to get him to go in the garden, then he had a relaspe and stopped even doing that...i rang dla and told them he wanted to start trying to go out and the woman i spoke to said that was fine it wasnt a change in circumstances like id thought it'd be!the girl still came every weekend(shes now having a baby in 2 months(my sons)anyway my son(still not able to go out anywhere alone)wants to move in with the girl as he doesnt feel hi could get better round here,he still is unable to talk to people,he still doesnt like to be alone and will now go shops (very local)with the girl but not alone..i have to inform dla and incapacity tomorrow hes moving out but will i still be able to be his appointee as he would just go without any money if he had to speak to people..hes still not well so woulsd he still be entitled to his money at all or should i just ring and take him off his benefits?9even tho he needs them)please please help:(

Why would you want to stop his benefits, ok tell them he is moving out, but a change of address is all you need do.

Let his girl friend take on the task of being his carer.

i dont want to stop his benefits cos he still isnt well..but because hes unable to talk to people he panics if he feels crowded,he said to stop his benefits just so he doesnt have to deal with anyone and i obviously dont want to do that cos he needs his money, what im saying i8s..he would rather go without anything than have to deal with people and i dont know if they will allow that

You can still be the appointee for your son after he moves out. The benefit office will want to check that your son is happy for you to be the appointee and then any letters or forms to do with his benefit claims will be sent to you to deal with.

My sister continued to be her son's appointee for 18 months after he moved out of her house, he was 17 and a half when he moved out.

Your son is going to live with his girlfriend - and they are having a baby. They will have to claim their own benefits as a family now (unless his girlfriend is working of course) but whichever way you look at it his benefits - apart from any DLA - will change.
I really can't see how you could still be his appointee - certainly not for his families benefits, which his girlfriend could deal with anyway.
It might be possible for you to continue as appointee in respect of his DLA only - but it would be an odd situation and I really don't know how the DWP would view it.
