Q’STRAINT TO SHOWCASE WORLD-LEADING RANGE OF UNIVERSALLY COMPATIBLE WHEELCHAIR AND PASSENGER RESTRAINTS AT COACH & BUS LIVE 2011

On stand F51 at Coach & Bus Live 2011 (Halls 17-18, NEC Birmingham 5-6 October), the world-leading safety specialist Q’Straint (http://www.qstraint.com) will be showcasing it’s recently launched Q’Winch along with the QM3 wheelchair securement system and its world-renowned QRT range of retractor restraints.

Based in Kent, Q’Straint is renowned for providing the most universal and concise range of wheelchair restraint systems in the world for use in accessible vehicles from private WAVs and minibuses to coaches and public transport. Its brand values of quality, innovation and technical excellence have always been focused on one core benefit – to provide universal and easy-to-use restraint solutions. Q’Straint continues to increase market share across the globe which was highlighted in the UK at The Mobility Roadshow in July. At this event the majority of all wheelchair safety restraints on display within accessible vehicles were Q’Straint branded. Phil Stratton, UK and Ireland Sales Manager explained: “Through our unique international client base, 25-year heritage, world-class product design and renowned high levels of after-sales service, Q’Straint continues to demonstrate impressive growth across the board. There is no compromise when you consider solutions that can save the lives of wheelchair passengers and hence, the majority of UK convertors are choosing the Q’Straint brand for trusted reliability, life-value and ultimately end-user peace of mind. We look forward to another busy show at Coach & Bus Live as this exhibition has always provided the perfect platform for us to showcase our innovative solutions to the right decision makers. It will also be interesting to visit the new CT zone following the final CTA show in Manchester earlier in the year.”

The Q’Straint stand will focus on three main product types this year – the Q’Winch, the QM3 and the QRT ranges. Simple to use, easy to install and universal in design, the new Q’Winch from Q’Straint provides efficient powered access for wheelchair occupants into vehicles up a slope or ramp. The Q’Winch consists of a highly durable motor and gearbox mounted on a base plate which houses 5 metres of webbing wound around a bobbin. This webbing can be attached to any wheelchair securement point via two tongue and buckle or karabiner hooks. Winch operation is straightforward and controlled by an ergonomic hand-held console that is connected via a robust coiled cable. With its low profile and compact dimensions of only 146mm (h) x 146mm (w) x 302mm (l), the new Q’Winch is compatible with all wheelchairs. It provides full positional control during both inwards and outwards motion; a ‘soft’ start/stop and a gradual slow down for the last phase of movement. To ensure the wheelchair occupant is comfortable with the transfer at all times, the Q’Winch has variable speed settings from 40 to 100%, which is controlled by easy-to-understand icons.

The QM3 range that currently includes Standard, Deluxe and Max versions, provides a flexible and efficient securement system for wheelchairs and powerchairs on low floor city buses, trams and trains. It is easy to operate, quick to use and has been specifically designed to be compatible with virtually all wheelchairs, powerchairs and scooters. QM3 from Q’Straint meets all the design requirements of PSVAR 2000 (Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations 2000) and 2001/85/EC (Bus Directive), which results in straightforward compliance with all EU regulatory bodies. The QM3 range comprises of a wheelchair backrest, steel frame and varying levels of restraint depending on the version selected. The backrest can be installed as a rearward facing solution in low floor city buses or in either direction within a train or tram. All upholstery and backrest materials conform to fire retardancy standards and every QM3 unit is foam filled for shock absorbance. To ensure even contact with the wheelchair or powerchair in transit, the QM3 backrest is angled at 6o and has been engineered with a narrow width so that restraining compatibility is maximised. This flexibility is further enhanced by ample clearance space at floor level which is ideal for accommodating wheelchairs with rear-mounted powerpacks.

The QRT range of wheelchair and passenger restraints are a leading choice for accessible vehicle convertors across the world. Available as Standard, Deluxe or Max models, QRT tie-downs are highly respected within the industry and deliver market-leading levels of safety through design excellence, extensive R&D and quality components.

The Standard model is a universal, retracting restraint system for securing wheelchairs or powerchairs. It is supplied as a set of four identical retractors that can be placed either at the front or rear of the wheelchair and each provide easy-to-grip single knobs for manual tensioning. The QRT Standard is engineered with a durable yet lightweight zinc cover, incorporates a simple ‘J type’ hook configuration and a PLI (Positive Lock Indicator) in the foot, which clearly displays when the floor fitting is secured properly. All of these features ensure the retractors can be fitted easily, quickly and eliminates compatibility concerns.

The QRT Deluxe incorporates all the features of the Standard version with the addition of automatic self-tensioning and locking retractors and the QRT Max features fully automatic self-tensioning and locking retractors. Without the need for any manual adjustment, the four QRT Max retractors in a single kit provide the quickest, single-handed operation on the market.
