Disabled drivers - can we claim VAT back from 'VAT Qualifying' cars?

Was wondering if someone here can help me with this question as the answers elsewhere on the internet are so ambiguous.

If someone in a wheelchair...

Was wondering if someone here can help me with this question as the answers elsewhere on the internet are so ambiguous.

If someone in a wheelchair were to buy a new car and have it adapted prior to taking delivery then they can buy the car VAT free thus save 16.67% from the total price.

Quote:

Also, if you are a wheelchair user, you won’t have to pay VAT on motor vehicles for your own personal or domestic use that are designed or substantially and permanently adapted to enable you to enter and drive, or enter and be carried in the vehicle

You also won't have to pay VAT on any charges made for the installation, repair and maintenance for some of the above items or spare parts and accessories for use in or with the items.

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/sectors/c...disabled.htm#2

However, if the car is a used car then you are not able to claim the VAT back as there is no VAT payable on used cars in the first place.

Quite simple so far BUT there then comes a 3rd category which has 'VAT Qualifying' written in the adverts. They tend to be 'nearly new' cars or ex demos.

eg - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=pi...ient=firefox-a

So when it comes to these vehicles can disabled drivers still claim the full VAT off the sticker price?

Any ideas?

There has been much talk on here about ATOS doing home assessments etc and i've just read this in April's edition of DWP's Touchbase magazine which, bizarrely, was only published online today.
They claim that, "Eighty per cent of consultations will be held at assessment centres, however, home consultations will be offered to claimants that are unable to attend face-to-face consultations".

Obviously this is good news for some PIP claimants, but why then do ATOS try to fight against a home assessment for ESA claimants needing this help. See below:

Seen in the papers MPs demanding a£20,000 pay rise, some of these loonies are on £60,000 and wanting more. What a laugh these are the ones voted in by the people, yet it is cut welfare bills, cut the disabled, cut cut cut yet they give a 1% rise to public workers. These are the same people who are living silver spooned, big houses, claiming for every little thing they buy and want a pay rise. They even raise the pension age, yet youngsters leaving school cant get a job because they older ones need to work on to pension age

I'm talking generally rather than specific individual cases.
Many in full time employment can get DLA, whilst some on ESA SG cannot. Do employed people have to attend an ATOS examination for DLA, whilst those on ESA probably won't have to especially if they have had one for ESA already.
Now you would think that an employed person would have more difficulty fitting descriptors than someone in SG.
If someone lost their job and applied for ESA would they be found fit for work and if so, as has been seen, would their DLA then be stopped.
I realise using the word logic when talking about DWP and ATOS is illogical in itself, I wondered if anyone else had any logic to shed upon this.

For the first time in the show’s history, test drives throughout this year’s Mobility Roadshow will take place on public roads around the venue, offering visitors a more authentic driving experience.

Visitors will be able to test drive a wide range of marques and models with a variety of vehicle and adaptation configurations, including some drive-from-wheelchair options. This offers practical comparison of vehicle handling and driver comfort and safety in real traffic conditions.

A carefully planned route, with set off from and return to the Telford International Centre, has been designed in consultation with experienced drivers, who as always will accompany each driver.

You may book a test drive as a disabled driver, or passenger rides in wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs) for whom a safe comfortable ride is equally important.

The Mobility Roadshow was the first event to offer opportunities to test drive production model vehicles with a variety of adaptations, enabling people with disabilities the rare opportunity to ‘try before you buy’. Thousands of visitors have appreciated this rare opportunity to compare so many models during a single visit to one location.

You can register in advance for test drives here (though bookings for specific vehicles can only be made at the show) and remember to take your licence on the day.

NOTE: Test drives on the road route at the Mobility Roadshow are open to full licence holders only; however, provisional licence holders are welcome to come and talk to manufacturers and adaptation companies about their needs, and are invited to test drive at Get Going Live! – an event specifically for novice drivers with disabilities - on Saturday 13th July, details at www.getgoinglive.co.uk.or visit the Get Going Live! stand in the Information Village at the Roadshow.
The Red Wheelies are a group of ladies, all with Multiple Sclerosis who like to have fun on their mobility scooters to show that there is life with MS, thus raising awareness of the illness in a positive light.

Their philosophy is that they might have to accept the odd limitation, but they are certainly not going to give up. They are determined to prove that MS does not mean Must Stop.

This was proven when they gained – and still hold – the Guinness World Record for ‘the greatest distance covered in 24hrs by motorised wheelchair or mobility scooter’. This was achieved by Red Whellie Jackie Weedon in association with the Red Wheelies and Quingo at Fowlmead Country Park, Kent on 15 May 2011. Although three Red Wheelies participated, Jackie was put forward for the Guinness World Records title. She achieved 154 miles in 13 hours 50 minutes on her Quingo scooter.
You may not know that HRH The Duchess of Cornwall in an Honorary Red Wheelie.
The Red Wheelies have delighted Roadshow visitors in recent years. Don’t miss this chance to see them in action – detailed programme times will be published here closer to the Roadshow.

Mr Kittylitter has been turned down for DLA in February - If we try again with a new claim this month, would they still take the previous claim into consideration? This time I intend to get help from CAB, and Mr Kittylitter see's a top consultant at the Hypermobility Unit in London 5th June, so I was thinking, if I get the claim in this month with help from CAB and then ask DLA people to go to the Hypermobility consultant for evidence, this might help - this sounds really really bad and cunning, but I do believe that he deserves DLA the mobility at least, as every step he takes he is in pain, even when he is resting his leg he is in pain, cant stand in shower etc.

I know it is not the diagnosis, but Mr Kittylitter has Ehlers-Danlos, and his patellar is not tracking, secondary to his Hypermobility, and these patients are not good candidates for surgery so one of the 'normal' consultants has said.

I also want to get the claim in before 10th June as this is when it changes to PIP I believe.

I've been 'almost' housebound for several years because of pain, physical difficulties. Rarely go out, as it causes more pain, stress, fatigue etc.

Just wondered how people manage to fill their days.

I spend my days reading (sci-fi and fiction), internet, tv - oh and the odd nap here and there, then if I'm up to it, try a little housecleaning - give myself a task each day i.e. vacuum, clothes washing (all boring stuff), sometimes I can't manage these for days at a time.

I realise some here (the site) work full time, others work part time, and others like me don't work. Curious as my strength is zapped so quickly. Yesterday I went out - when I came back needed to nap, then able to watch tv.

Hope this makes sense?

How do people manage to fill their days, evenings?

Cheers from a cloudy Cardiff :)

Filled in the es whatever form and sent it off... 10% brain damage 85% body.. nerve endings in spine severed, muscle waste in legs and a short term memory, dementia ..
Got my reply and i'm getting ESA for a year...
Does this mean once the year is up i'm on me own ? do they help with finding a job that will pay the bills, thats if there's an employer happy to take on someone like me in my condition.
Tad confused at the mo
Any advice welcome because i'm clueless to all this..
Seems also a big drop in money that will cover the short fall in rent and leave enough to be able to eat 1 week a month.
