    This campaign against the disabled

I was talking to a young disabled girl this morning and she is terrified that she will lose her DLA as she can 'do work'.
She uses all her mobility allowance on an adapted car and has a carer. Without the DLA she couldn't work.
It seems that following some rubbish in the Daily Mail she asked at the 'Online Job center' and was told that this is indeed the case, if you are able to do anything you must find work.
I am under the impression that DLA is an allowance for the disabled to assist everyday living.
    has something changed?

Tell her not to worry;. DLA isn't 'means tested'. In other words you can work and receive both DLA care and mobility even at the top rates.

Out of interest if she faces any disabling barriers at work make sure she she knows about the number one support system for disabled people who choose to work. It's called 'Access to Work' - a branch of JobcentrePlus but it only works if she self-refers to the service.

If she needs any advice on any work related issue just let me know as I'm a 'guru' in this area.

Thanks for the reply, I think she has had help at work & she's really happy there. The main upset seems to be that the 'Job center' seems to confirm the idea that everyone is going to be re-assessed & if found to be capable of any work at all they will be moved onto the dole or whatever they call it at the moment.

Everyone will be reassessed, that is true. That does not means she will lose the child-of-DLA though. Just because she can work does not mean she is not disabled.

I think there has been some misunderstanding about what the Jobcentre have told her. Yes, DLA is going to change and the new benefit to replace it will be mainly assessed, probably much like ESA is now. But the fact is people can claim DLA while working, as your friend already does. So when it happens they can't really tell her she must be doing some work because she already is.
And her mobility difficulties hopefully should be pretty obvious and still allow her help with mobility under the new PIP. In any case DLA isn't about work, and PIP shouldn't be either. The ability to do some work criteria comes under ESA assessments.
There are of course concerns that the new PIP assessments will end up being too much like the ESA ones, but there are still a lot of details to be sorted, not to mention ongoing lobbying, before they come in.

I gather you go on Jobcenterplus enter your Postcode & can then access Text-Mail.
We live in very rural area & our 'local' Jobcenter (10 miles away) was closed some years ago.
