I became an amputee in 2010 following a car accident. After a lengthy stay in hospital and rehab, I moved into a downstairs flat with a wetroom fitted with a Mira Advance shower in July 2011. Almost immediately on moving in, the shower became faulty and it transpired that the showers control panel has blown. As it was less than a year from the shower being fitted, the local suppliers replaced the part under warranty.
Last week, the shower again became faulty and it looked like the same thing had happened. I rang the local suppliers who said that it would need to be Mira as the shower was more than a year old and out of gaurantee, so the part would be under Mira's warranty.
The Mira engineer came out and said it was not the control panel, it was the hose that was faulty, would I like it replaced. As I had been without a shower for four days (pretty rough when you are an amputee !!) I said yes.
He simply unscrewed the hose at both ends, put a new one on (less than 5 minute job) and said I would be billed direct by Mira.
Low and behold I receive a bill from Mira for £159 !!! A hose from a recognised Mira supplier is £20.83 so basically they are charging me £138 for 5 minutes work !!! Needless to say I will not be paying this bill.
Given that Mira are the only recognised shower supplier for disabled and blind people, has anyone else had similar occurences with them ? Given that most disabled people like myself will be living on benefits, I find this absolutely deplorable.
