It depends on the rates. If the rates were say, £40 a month, and there is no car or blue badge, and if you don't qualify for any of the care rate of PIP, then some people might think is it worth going through a degrading assessment, causing great anxiety and stress, just for £40 a month? At the moment, nobody knows what the rates are going to be, but I dont think standard pip mobility is going to be enough to meet people's travelling costs. I think the rates are going to be much less then the current DLA low rate Mobiity component.

When my mother became disabled & we found out about DLA we were convinced she would not get HRM or HRC. We were ready at accept whatever they decided. She did get HRM though. Without this money we could not have piad the extra things related to her disabilities, such as higher heating costs, taxis, broken crockery, & the many other things. The Care Component helped in that as I had to give up work it provided money to pay the bills as my income went down to zero overnight.

Some on here have questioned the fact that many disabled people cannot work, or that those who care for them do not work. My mother is nearly 68, she is frail, yet she is also my carer. The fact that we are both disabled & both have to help the other out means that without the money we get now we would be in serious trouble. There are thousands of people like us. We do not work through choice.
