    all i was saying was if they expect me to carry on using it as it stands i will be bankrupt by end of the month lol if it had been running at 35+mpg at the moment it wouldnt be so bad it looks worse when they say
    Urban35.8 mpg
    Extra Urban55.4 mpg
    Combined46.3 mpg
    thats what i'm basically working out what my car should do.

    Vauxhall's as far as I'm aware have never been fuel efficient. I at one point had a 2010 (60) Astra 1.6 SRI (Petrol), fuel figures were something around 42-45 if I remember correctly but I got 25.1 mpg. I never floored it, I always drove like a granny to see if it improved but it never did. When I did floor it down roads it would go as low as 14mpg.

    This was city driving...in London

    Urban = 35.8 mpg
    Extra Urban = 55.4 mpg
    Combined = 46.3 mpg

    The problem is you'll never get those figures, they got them in a laboratory!

    To get a rough combined figure I would take the Urban economy and multiply it to get an idea of the actual combined figure.

    35.8mpg x 1.1 = 39.4mpg, from that figure I'd expect your Actual Urban figures to be around 28.9mpg

    What Car have launched their new True MPG service, unfortunately it doesn't cover your car, but I'd expect the figures to be similar as my calculations above.

    Just had a look at this link, also had a look at "Which" and on the car I am buying What Car state I should achieve 39mpg and Which 62.8mpg, government figures 62.8.
    I know someone who has a car and regularly gets 55mpg+.
    Will watch the figures with eager anticipation when I take delivery but from previous experience I normally average a little over the Urban figure, between 5-10%.

    When you say that the 140 miles used 6 gallons are you really certain of your figures?. I think your Meriva takes 54 ltrs & the only certain way of calculating the amount of fuel used id to totally fill the tank with a good grade unleaded, note the mileage then after a period of mixed driving conditions re-fill the tank to full noting exactly how much fuel you have used. Then divide the amount of fuel used by the mileage recorded.
    My 1.6 sri Astra auto is averaging just under 30mpg but my average journey is only 12 miles and average speed 24mph, also the fuel gauge isn't very exact + the speedo reads at least 4mph over at 30mph compared to the Tom-Tom & the speed warning signs. I gather that this is not unusual and depends which wheel/tyre combinations are fitted.
    Also studies have been carried out that show that some supermarket fuels preform rather poorly, however Morrison come out better than shell!

    in my opinion they should state the lower end of what the car should be doing minimum not maximum then there would be less confusion ,that way if you get more mpg than they state its a bonus for the owner

    Besides, these mpg figures are done in the best possible conditions that exist. They use the 'perfect' driver, weather conditions, road etc.

    been back to dealers and spoke to the manager. he said no point in getting it checked out as if there was a fault it would be displayed on dashboard. and also not to expect much more improvement on mpg as they are quite heavy on fuel . i also spoke to a salesperson and they said they only get 28-30 mpg out of theirs

    Did you ask the dealers about the economy before ordering?
