    MS and Mascular degeneration

    Hi
    I am new to the forum (today)
    I am looking for help and advice in claiming benefits for MS and Mascular degeneration.
    My wife was diagnosed with progressive MS around six months ago and is really struggling getting around,plus very regular migraines.
    My mother has been diagnosed as partially sighted due to Mascular degeneration.
    She is struggling with day to day tasks.
    I work full time and have done for nearly forty years and am finding it very difficult to help in both situations.My health is beginning to suffer as I am constantly tired and stressed.
    I feel I need to be available for longer periods of time to help, shopping cleaning etc.
    I only have six years to go before I can retire,but this seems a lifetime away, and my family need me available now.
    Is it possible that I could claim different sorts of benefits to help me either reduce my working hours or care full time?
    Thanks to anyone that can help.It will be much appreciated.

    Chris

    If your mother is over 65, she can claim Attendance Allowance for help with personal care due to poor eye sight. Details here;

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Disabled...rt/DG_10012425

    Disability Living Allowance is claimed by those under 65 for help with poor mobility and/or personal care. Details her;

    You can claim other benefits as a carer if you stop work. This is more complecated to advise about here and so you should contact your local CAB for a interview and benefits advice.

    You need to phone the Council social services department to have an assessment carried out on your mother and wife, people who need constant care , can get funding or help .

    I use to have 24 hour care, this was reduced to four hours a day, but it still helps my wife.

    yes you should speak to the CAB sadly the ILF has now ended so that one area of help thats gone.

    But you can get help
