    PIP And Bedroom Tax

    As the new benefit is supposed to help with the extra cost involved with day to day living, well one of the extra costs of day to day living for disabled people is having to have an extra bed room so I presume that when the Bedroom Tax kicks in the new benefit PIP will be upgraded to absorb that (or is that hoping for too much) Sorry able bodied people

    DLA is also intended to help with the extra costs of day to day living Stuey, so there's no real change there. By the 'bedroom tax' I guess you mean the Local Housing Allowance and capping of Housing Benefit according to property size? This has already started, so if your Housing Benefit hasn't dropped you are probably already getting DLA need taken into account, or are perhaps an existing Council tenant, or your rent is simply already under your LHA limit.
    There has been no mention so far (or nothing that I've seen) about any proposed change to the need for an extra bedroom for people with certain care needs, or for those who need a live-in carer.
    But what isn't clear yet is how Universal Credit might affect Housing Benefit payments. If there are going to be any changes that could affect 'bedroom tax' - which is unlikely anyway for DLA Care claimants - I think that is where they could happen. Not by means of any upgrading to PIP.

    I was looking on our local councils website and it states the following;
    Allow one bedroom for, etc etc finishing with A carer (or team of carers) who do not live with you but provide you/your partner with overnight care
    I think this applies to the new rules on housing benefit, is that the 'bedroom Tax'?

    You are lucky that your Council mentions it, mine does not on their website, or if they do I cannot find it. It mentions the bedroom limit, but nothing for disabled people who have carers who llve in or have different night carers that need a bed.
