    Hi there,
Im so sorry to hear that you are feeling so down.
My Dad suffered with depression for a very long time and i know that people with this awful illness are sometimes fobbed off and sadly and all too often misunderstood.
Bu there ARE good people out there who CAN help...
The first thing I will say is change your doctor. You do not need a doctor who is not interested in your needs.
when my Dad was suffering with depression, my Mum also got diagnosed. Ithink it was due to the stress of my Dad being ill. It affects everyone, not just he sufferer. But unlike my Dad, she didnt take the tablets that the doctor gave her and in 3 months she was fine and has been ever since and that was 18 years ago! The same happened to my mum in law, she had a nervous breakdown, was given tablets but flushed them down the loo and shes fine too
im nNOT telling you to do that by no means as you may find that the tablets really help you but theres other ways of coping . my Dad tried hypnotherapy which seem to help and took herbal tablets(st johns wort) which he found effective too.
theres lots of useful sites on the web to look at...
the docs just like to throw tablets at you sometimes but you NEED to see an occupational therapist within a mental health team, you also need to see a psyciatrist to be properly assessed as theres differents levels and types of depression.
change your doctor and demand a second opinion and dont give up because help is out there and things WILLget better.
Im on these forums regularly if you ever need to chat and please let us know how you get on

ps, it could be the tablets that youre on for the other illnesses that have triggered the depression. did your doctor go throught the meds with you before prescribing? i had pills to help me stop smoking but they were known to trigger depression so i had to do a 5 minute assessment to see if i was depressed on prone to depression before the doc would prescribe them.
if you change your doctor, ask them to review ALL your meds and if any of them can trigger or worsen depression, or cause mood swings etc, then they need changing asap

I saw Ruby Wax on breakfast TV who was promoting her cause relating to mental illnesses and a support network/website called http://www.blackdogtribe.com/

Hope it's of some help to know you're not alone.

    Take care.

when i was around 18 i went through very bad depression and the doctor then kept chucking tablets at me which sent me totally downwards and eventually led to the worst scenario. since that day i have had lots of different treatments basically treatment has got me through difficult times and i am sat here to tell the story at nearly 50 years of age.

in respect of things Kassya, i am wondering if there are any local support groups in your area and also wondering if you should try adult social services for your area. a internet search should come up with social services and it may also come up with any mental health support groups.

i have been through this scenario it hit me when i was around 18 and it is unpleasant, what ever you do don't give up, life is valuable,

    mike

Hi I too have recently been diagnosed with clinical depression despite my doctor telling me in Nov 2010 to just go and get a book out of the library to help myself! In Jan 2012 I called I-Talk on tel no 023 8038 3920, a self referral counselling company in Hampshire and they have been great. I am now waiting for a face to face session. My Doctor just wanted to prescribe me pills and doesnt seem to understand how much stress I have had all caused by losing my DLA and car. When asked if I want to kill myself I said no but I asked my counsellor if there was an equivalent feeling of anger and frustration. I dont want to harm myself but I have so much frustration at how disabled people are being overlooked and left to fend for themselves without any consideration. Please dont give up x

    My best wishes.

I am new here but Was a member a while a go.
I suffer with mental health problems, psychosis (hearing voices, in my case), bi-polar and passive aggresive PD. also a severe back problem with non stop pain (understatement) and a severe stomach condition, oh yer diabites too add if important and need a GCSE in spelling.
Im on 21 different meds a day, a total of 48 pills swallowed a day, of which some are mood stability meds etc. i have to admit without these pills i wouldnt be alive.
Depression has so many causes, your meds, pain, family problems, isolation (like me), even the weather. The efexor or venlafaxin is a good anti depresant, it wont change you, it just helps you see things a little calmer but they need at least 2 months to notice any change
BUT a really big BUT! That is not an answer for coping with depression and moving forward. I feel so angry when GPs ignore people. You need support not just from family, a councillor or cpn or psychiatrist. A psychologist wont help as you are under medication.
You must basically get back to your GP and at least come out with a phone number for a support service or a repheral. Make sure your voice is heard!
Things i can suggest is get some fresh air even if its just time in your garden. The same 4 walls are a real pain and can make you agrophobic. Do something for you once a day even if its just a small bar of galaxy!
I think this web site is great for support but i do not recommend the mental health forums as for someone with depression they will only make you worse. A lot of people on them are long time mental health problems that are very scary.
I wish you luck and any help i can be, please just ask
    Marc

    kassy,
It is normal for those with debilitating, painfull and incurable illnesses to be depressed. Before and even sometimes now fibro was said to be a mental health problem, which it is not.
I think you need to find the source of your depression, is it because of your present state of health ( or an accumulation from the length of illness ) or is it from something more personal?????
Understanding the source may well need professional help and I'm sorry to say it's true there is very little available and as such the waiting list is long. It is possible to join local self help groups or ones specific to your needs/problems, and there are very many online help groups, such as fibro etc.
It is vital that you understand which sort of depression you have. Clinical depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain which can only be treated/managed with meds and is usually incurable. Emotional depression is not a chemical imbalance and whilst meds may help it is curable/manageable.
I have to say that lack of family, friends or outside help is adding to your sense of isolation which will not help.
You are not alone at all in your circumstances, many suffer as you do, there is help out there, Google your head off.
I wish you all the best and there is always hope, don't let that go even when it seems pointless.
