It sounds as though the removal of disabled from the tax disc may actually happen.
Teri
hello all,
so with the paralympics and all i have a renewed energy for getting the tax disc and blue badge changed
things have moved forward with my small campaign and i believe the DVLA will be changing the tax disc as soon as i have confirmation of that i will post. With disability is all over the news for obvious reasons i am getting more positive replies to my enquiries as attitudes change and i believe my complaint is now more to do with the description of people with a disability rather than a motoring issue
one thing i found very interesting was david cameron referring to athletes as with a disability not as disabled i have not seen him use the word once, i have been in touch with Sir Philip Cravens office at the IPC as he has been very vocal of his distaste for the word disabled and has called for the word to be struck off, lots online and in the news but here is a link
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012...led-disability
i clearly feel strongly about this and i am now going to push for the word disabled to be struck off which in turn will mean the blue badge and legislation will have to be changed.
thanks paul
i think it may happen, good luck
Hi
I'm new to this board. I used to be on the BBC's Ouch messageboard before they closed it down.
I'm 24 and I work at a local supermarket in Northern Ireland. In my work customers and staff have to share the same underground carpark due to space restraints.
I fall under the severe arm disability catagory and I drive a specially adapted car.
I recently passed my driving test and even when I was learning I got abuse from older people. One time me and my dad were parking in one of the disabled bays in my work after a quick pre work driving lesson. I just turned the car off and this elderly woman came up from behiend me and started hurling abuse at us. She must have said to herself "oh there's a young learner driver parking in a disabled bay. She can't possibly be disabled."
I showed her both sides of my blue badge and the extensive adaptions that are on my car and she still insisted that I wasn't disabled. I told her where to go. But when I got out she seen how bad my walking is and she shutup.
Don't worry about what other people say or do, it will take you a while to build the confidence but you'll eventually learn to ignore them.
If anyone really gets abusive the best thing to do is: take out your phone, and loudly say you are calling the police and reporting them for disability harassment/hate crime - they'll soon disappear.
Unfortunately I find the older members of society less accepting to hidden disabilities but attitudes are changing. From listening to those at the Paralympics yesterday, I think the world is changing for the better.

Thanks. I will ignore them from now on. But some people really get on your nerves, don't they.
Oh they really do.
People used to say you must respect your elders, but I say only respect those who respect you back.

what do people think about the 'disabled' communities reaction positive and negative to the paralympics? i have seen a few articles from a disability perspective bemoaning the paralympics and the relationship some people with disabilities are having with the event especially in light of the atos protests.
quite a few suggestions/pieces online about 'disabled' people feeling the paralympics are being used by the state to send a message that 'look what people can do if they just try harder' also philip craven being called a disability denier for calling for the abolition of the word disabled, seems odd to me, as an able bodied person my brother doesn't feel ashamed that he can't run the 100m under 10 seconds, so why do some with disabilities feel a comparison especially when our disabilities and those of the athletes can be so incomparable... but the comparison theme seems very vocal from the 'disabled'
as frankie boyle has said,,, if you win a gold medal you best not ware it for your pip assessment...
and yes agree old people have funny ideas my great aunt recently described me as looking a bit lazy...ha... i tried to smile but alas parkinsons... just stayed looking lazy instead
