    Advice on carers allowance

    Hi
My son was recently awarded the highest rate of DLA for care as he has been diagnosed as being autistic. I now care for him and have made an application for carers allowance.
The DWP are quibbling over my application because I earned the massive sum of £8K in the last financial year (I am self-employed). I know that I can't earn more than £100 a week in order to qualify for the carer's allowance and have sent them a signed letter stating that I have scaled down my work and earnings. I think we are still going to struggle to get this money, which we need so much as my son has many appointments and needs one-to-one attention all the time and I can't work much.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Do you think we will have to wait a year and I'll have to show another set of accounts? It's all so confusing and frustrating...
    Grrr.

Quite possibly unless they will accept accounts over say a 3 month period.

I actually know someone in the same situation and they did wait a year.

Like the other poster I know someone in same boat they too was told that they would have to wait 12 months and show accounts

The only way they could get around this was to close shop stop paying NI credits and close down there NIC details with the tax man and stop trading then once payment was in force got a new nic registration to show that they where not going to make over a £100 a week they regitered as small trader not taking over £5,050 a year and not wanting to pay NI credits this worked this ties in with CA income too

if you get close to limit on earnings as you have not got NI credits to deduct from wage and wont be allowed many expenses on such a low income you start small pension and pay in each month what ever you need to keep below £100 so if one week you make £110 pay £20 that week into pension you earn £100 as half private pension allowed and you keep the CA ;-)

just read something in Universal credits Regulations

Since I posted an answer to this and a work around on showing how you can make pension payments and as you have said cut your work down so you earn less........ IMO on a quick read of Universal Credits you could not cut your hours self employed if you have been self employed more than 12 months in UC there is a "Floor" which under you can not claim to earn and if you do they would use there income level

so my numbers you earn £5000 a year self employed they say regardless you earn £9,000 and your credits are work on the 9k number

people will only be allowed to go below the "floor" once in a life time so if you set up a company it goes bust or you set up a new company in a diufferent field to move with the times you CAN NOT go below the floor again and there minimum income (whatever it is) will be used

that sort of accounting will cut many peoples UC IMO of course but I think I am on right track
