Mercedes B Class - UP TO 8 MONTH WAITING LIST!! What should we do

Earlier this year my dad laid down a deposit for the Mercedes B class, he was told it was up to an 8 month waiting list but all seemed worth it because of the car he's getting. Unfortunately, he's car less at the moment, is there anything Motability can do?

If not, is there anything any company can do? Just a courtesy car while you wait.

I'm not sure why this situation has arisen. What is the reason you have been given for the 8 month waiting time? I'm assuming that demand must out weighs production/ import unless it is because you need the car modified, although the scheme states that there is no waiting.
Have you spoken to the dealership about providing a car whilst you are waiting or looked at company's who do monthly leases?
    Sorry can't be more help.

Unfortunately there isn't a lot Motability or Mercedes can do as your father agreed to the 8 month wait when first ordering.

If he'd agreed to 4 months, and then Mercedes said it would be 8 months he would of had grounds to ask for a courtesy car, he may still get one or be given a discounted hire car from Mercedes, there's no harm in asking.

I don't think Motability could do anything though assuming that this is his first Motability car.
    Motability Car History
05/2009-05/2012; Nissan Qashqai 1.5 Diesel Tekna; 36,500 miles; avg 41.1mpg
    06/2012-Present; Ford C-Max 2.0 Diesel Titanium Powershift; 12,900 miles; avg 37.6mpg

I dont understand how a Mercedes small car which is a bland drive is "worth a 8 month wait"??
So many better cars he could have got, which pays the salaries of British workers who can pay the tax so he can get a car.
no sympathy, use your DLA for taxis whilst you wait.

No offence Warkman, but stop slagging people off for getting cars that arent your 'favourite'. Everyone has a right to chose the car they want, your rants that people should only go for British made manufactures is becoming incredibly boring and tedious. You tend to forget that all these car companies like BMW,VW,Mercedes still employ workers in this country, even if the cars aren't being made here. There is no need for snide remarks about that customers choice of car.

Although off topic BMW are to build their new 3 cylinder engines in the UK. article on what car 12/6/2012. BMW employ 8000 people in the UK at its plants and another 11000 in its dealer network. Many BMW group cars are built in the UK.
I did test drive 2 B Class's Zamanb and was quoted around 17 weeks for delivery. At the AP's in March it was very good value and I found the car had many very good attributes including a classy and spacious interior and good spec. The drive did not quite do it for me when compared to the 1 series which was my deciding factor but I am sure your fathers long wait will be worthwhile.
Is there any benefit in speaking to the dealer to see if they can do anything to speed up the process? Perhaps they may have a similar car in group stock which could meet you fathers need if you are able to compromise on some aspects, colour etc? I have assumed, like Paul this is his 1st car in which case Motability's help is unlikely.
By the way, welcome to this forum. Please let us know how you get on and good luck.

Yes it's clear that this is the first motability lease hire car. When I have ordered a new Renault they are individually made to order - they don't ;stock pile' them. For future reference if the next car ordered at the end of this lease will be delivered 3 or 4 months after your existing lease is due to expire Motability will simply extend your lease until the new car is ready for collection.

I guess the B Class must be popular and there may be import restrictions in place.

In the meantime contact the Council and ask about 'taxi travel vouchers' = you can get £15 worth of taxi vouchers for every £5. He'll also be eligible for the Concessionary travel card which allows free travel on trams after 9.30am and don't forget buses like 'Dialaride' which are accessible .

For example here's what Manchester City Council offer -

Well, they ensured that double that amount they now employ were made redundant when they stole everything they could from Rover and Land Rover.
Their current small engines are built in Brazil. the engine they are talking aboiut is a Hybrid to go in cars selling for over $100,000, so slaes will hoefully be short
Meanwhiule, Jaguar Land Rover is continuing to build more cars, emply more BRITISH engineers, and are building a 600,000 engines per year plant in Wolverhampton.
the ONLY group cars built in the UK are MINIs, a car they stole from Rover.
Anyone who buys their products gets short shrift from me.
as for What car, dont you mean What BMW? they are so far up Munichs bottom they can see daylight through the Munich mouth.

They employ MINIMUM workers who dont actually pay much toewards YOUR Government supplied DLA! There are many more workers who pay a lOT of taxes towards YOUR DLA from Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Jaguar land Rover and the many thousands of first and secont tier manufacturers based in this country, unlike BMW and Mercedes, who only employ the minium sales and service technicians. All of the parts used for MINIs for example, surprise, surprise, are from German and Germany based companies.

As for the Mercedes B class, i have driven it, if you looked back at my posts and I was distinctly underwhelmed with it. I am afraid too many Disabled who get their Motability and other benefits froom the British workers, want the badge to pose around in.

No wonder people have a go at the Disabled, its time that BMW, Mercedes and the rest who contribute nothing to the Bristish econaomy, rather take from the British people were removed from teh scheme. Less Choice? good.
Keeping jobs in the UK, even better.
Not having a posure badge on your driveway with a motability tax disc? even better.

I dont care what you think Warkman, people can choose any car they want. Who do you think you are? If it was down to you then, they would only have about 5 car companies on the scheme. Hardly good for the motability fleet. Motability offers choice. If someone wants to get a BMW, then that is up to them. You come accross as extremly bitter on these forums, stop being on your high horse. You are also a hypocrite, as Jaguar is a posure badge. Nissan and Toyota are Japanese, they may have plants in this country, but their profits dont go to a british firm. Like I said on my previous post, stop having a go at people who choose cars that you dont like. Its getting boring and tedious.
