I think right now we cannot assume anything, even if the new rules say something. Further changes are planned, this has been made very clear that the current changes are not the end, only the start.

    PIP timetable

The timetable for the introduction of personal independence payment (PIP), the benefit set to replace disability living allowance (DLA) is still far from certain. However, the latest government position as set out by Lord Freud in the recent Welfare Reform Bill debate in January 2012 is as follows.

Only a few thousand new PIP claims a month will be processed in the first months after the introduction of PIP in April 2013. All other new and renewal claims will be treated as claims for DLA rather than PIP.

If this goes smoothly, all new claims will then be for PIP rather than disability living allowance (DLA) in the following months.

Existing DLA claimants will only be assessed for PIP six months after the benefit has been introduced - so from sometime in October 2013. Initially, this will only be DLA claimants whose fixed-term award is ending and claimants who report a change of circumstances.

Assessing all current DLA claimants is likely to take at least three yeas, so is unlikely to be completed before October 2016.

NOTE - If your big brother gets DLA and is aged 65 or over on the day PIP is introduced in April 2013, he will not need to claim PIP and be able to keep the benefit beyond the age of 65 so long as he satisfies the qualifying conditions.

Well we are not all going to lose DLA but many will even the DWP says in Draft paperwork how many people will get PIP and its in the millions.

there are many people who will not get PIP as there is no doubt the new benefit has much harder regulations being sick with mainstream well documented problems I dont see many problems other than if I get a brain dead DM who cant read but thats life an appeal or review would put things right I hope

I feel sorry for some people on higher mobility and others on the lower care due to the meal test

cant make my mind up reading the regs how people sick some of the time will do under the new system

    not well suppose

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) will be introduced from April 2013 for new claimants only.

From October 2013, existing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) recipients who are of working-age (16 to 64) at the point of introduction of Personal Independence Payments will be assessed to determine if they are eligible for the new benefit.
The above quote is taken from a press release from the DWP on 14 March 2012.

So if I'm reading this correctly big bro will NOT retain his DLA but assessed and (hopefully) moved to the PIP because his 65th falls in June 2013 - am I reading this correctly?

In your big brother's case he missed out keeping DLA by two months. And remember he won't 'be moved' onto PIP as PIP replaces DLA. He will keep DLA until he is assessed for the new replacement benefit called PIP. There will be two rates - a lower and enhanced payment for both mobility and care but nobody knows how much these will be worth.

Only people placed in the enhanced section of mobility will be entitled to a motability car. If you aren;t given the higher rate of mobility in PIP you'll have to give your mobility lease hire car back - that's why disabled people are worried. Will I or won't I pass the computerised medical.

We know one thing, & it is causing a lot of worry. It will be much harder to get the enhanced rates of PIP for mobility & car than DLA. If you are on HRC DLA & MRC DLA you are likely to at least get the lower rates of PIP. If you are on the HRM & HRC DLA you are likely to get the lower rates of PIP. If you are on LRM & LRC DLA it is less likely, but not impossible you would get the lower rates of PIP. The criteria fo PIP is so restrictive right now. We have been asked our views on it, & many other have been asked too. The criteria for PIP is not yet written in stone, & we have to hope it will be relaxed. At the end of the day all we can do now is wait & hope. PIP is purely about saving money, this has been stated. They want to cut billions off the benefit budget, & PIP is one of the main ways of doing it. Worry is the order of the day I am afraid.
