Get Down to Get Going Live! at Donington Park
The 2012 season of Get Going Live! events kicks off at Donington Park Launch Pad this Saturday, 14th July. If you’re a young person aged 14 or over with a disability just starting out on the road to independent motoring, or someone newly disabled who needs to get back behind the wheel with vehicle adaptations, this event is for YOU!
As well as over 20 vehicles available to test drive – standard production models with adaptations plus a couple of drive-from-wheelchair options too – we have brought together a wide range of information services, products, hands-on demonstrations and practical advice to help you find your way around adapted driving and accessible sport and leisure.
All vehicles are fitted with dual controls for safety, and you’ll be accompanied by an experienced professional driver at all times while you test drive on the historic Heritage Loop at Donington Park.
To help you pass your test, you can try out theory and hazard perception, and test reaction times on the Driver Test Station. There’s all kinds of advice and information - anything from vehicle assessment and adaptations to the benefits of the Motability scheme, and a number of driving instructors with adapted vehicles will be on hand to give you the low-down on driving schools and instructors.
Do you know how to position your seat and seat belt correctly, for driving or as a passenger? Probably not, but you will after a chat with our expert, and watched footage of what can happen in an accident if you don’t. Plus our Ask the Driver feature puts the spotlight on young drivers with disabilities who have been there, done that and got their licence – find out what it was REALLY like for them!
In between driving slots you can check out the climbing wall, or maybe a skid car, rally or 4x4 experience. Or talk to a variety of information providers, local and national organisations, explore disability sport or check out some new wheelchairs. All driving and other activities are free of charge, so come on down to Get Going Live! this Saturday for an action-packed event. Open from 10am – 5pm.
