It's good to know that Motability offer a one year Warrentee that's a bonus.

The thing is cars these days are safer, more reliable and better built so even buying a car 5 years old means it still uses modern technology.

Auctions - I thought cars were only sent to auction if they had done over 50,000 milees otherwise they can be put on the garage forecourt.

What appeals to me about buying my Scenic is that I know the service history, it's the true mileage and I have first refusal on buying it - no competition like you find in an auction.

Motability said I can ask for a quote three months before it's due back ie end of August.

The only thing that would put me off buying the car at the end of the lease, is the fact that you have to pay for the car in one lump sum. I would rather pay by a HP agreement or continue with them taking off the DLA each month. A lump sum would be expensive, especially trying to get a loan nowadays.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm not really one to take out loans. If I can't buy it using savings I won't buy it that way I don't get into debt. I've put a bit away each month over the last four years so it's not a shock.

Here's a good motto - 'to fail to prepare is to prepare to fail'

This is definitely an age thing. Todays young people want everything and they want it now and are prepared to take out big loans and get into debt. I don't have that mentality. Anyway as the car will be five years old and will have depreciated at over 25% a year I think I know fairly accurately what it will cost me to buy now - even four years ago! That dictated how much I put to one side and not blowing it away.

Insurance - correction - only £390 PA and that included home start . Given 5 years no claims bonus and if car was off the road £50 a day compensation - not a bad deal in my opinion.
