hi there, i am new to this so please can i ask if anyone can give me some advice please , i have a 8 yr old who has been diagnosed with dyspraxia , dyslexia possible discalculiar, and hypermobility syndrome after assesments. He falls alot , cant walk far as his legs hurt, he has the hypermobility problem in his ankles, knees and elbows so far, he has to take pain relief daily they have also said he has memory problems visual memory, concept ,figure. he has to wear a splint from coming in from school till approx 7 the next morning therefore we have to take turns to sleep in his room as he gets distressed with the splint on , and trys to get up during the night for the toilet so we have to take the splint off as he inst allowed to walk with it on. this is to stop his left foot turning inwards.he ha being assesed for 3 yrs by a educational phsycologist as we and the school realised he was not academically learning he has been classified as sig below average in every aspect. he has had a iep in place for 3 yrs now to no avail the school has now applied for a inclusion support and are applying for a statement of special needs and are requesting the ed ucational phsycol to re assess him to define the discaluliar. therefore we have been advised to apply for dla . what do we do ? any advice please will be greatly appreciated x.

    I would apply for sure.
Not sure but you may be able tp fill in application online or request form online or just give them a ring and ask them to send you a pack.
    All the best.

Telephone: 0800 88 22 00 ask them to send you a dla claim pack and then try to get welfare rights or cab to help you fill it in

Hello there. This is a word of warning from my experience. During next year DLA is being scrapped in favour of a new Scheme called PIP, (personal independence payments) Unfortunately i believe that ATOS have just secured that contract, £400 million, so i would not be surprised if the same "cut throat" policies where not applied. Of course apply for DLA, but it may well be worth asking how that claim will be assessesed because of the changes coming in next year. I would hate it if you spent a great deal of your time and effort raising your hopes around getting DLA whereby it maybe the case that it will simply be "binned" in favour of waiting for the new PIP scheme. Pop down to your local CAB (if it hasn't been shut down) and get some advice.

Best of luck to you and my very best wishes,
    Andy Pandy

    Hi Andy,
suspect you will find the DLA changes don't affect children. I'm not 100% sure on this so do check.

    Hi Dawn.
I have heard it sugested by a lot of people claiming DLA for children is to keep a diary for a week of all that you have to do for your son and his problems. Send this in with the completed form.
    Best wishes
    C.
Best of luck to you and my very best wishes,

ATOS have been contracted for years to the DWP and done DLA examinations, now they have won the contract to continue albeit under the new name of PIP. PIP is rumoured to be a tougher test than the present system, but that should have no bearing on putting in an application for DLA now.
