    trouble with my doctor

Hi I am new to the forum and I hope somebody can give me some advice I have been on the lower rate of disability for some years now but my condition is worsening last year I applied for medium rate it was turned down so I appealed but it turns out my doctor who diagnosed my osteoarthritis has NEVER been supportive but this time I got to read his form when it was returned to me buy tribunal to say I was shocked puts it mildly what was read he must have wasted no more than 30 sec doing it normal ,normal don't know, comments box empty and signature I have had 3-4 assessment so far and not once did he refer to them or there would be no normal, normal etc and he could have filled the comments box 10 times over I no longer trust my doctor should I find a new one if so do you think they will be any different???

Sadly you get all sorts of people in life good and bad, we get GP's like this. Do you have any other GP's in your practice see if they would help you, if not then you have no choice but to move on.

See if you can speak to other disabled people ask them about GP's.

But do not forget GP's are not mind readers either, they may know you have a disability or illness, but may not know how seriously it affects your life, do you have a social work helping you out, has the council done any work for you hand rails or such.

Have you applied for any help in your home.

Because the DWP looks at all this.

Hi we had the same thing happen to us 12 months ago.My husband went to see doctor(not his own) at our practice and the first thing she said to him was" my god your disabled what are you claiming for".He is on long term incapacity benefit(heart problems for 20+ years) and thatstold her that was the only benefit we get.Anyway to cut a very long story short we applied for DLA and they asked for a doctors report which was sent.He was refused DLa.When we asked to look at the report the doctor had sent in all it said was "he need help putting his socks on"
We askeds them to look again at his forms and write to the doctor who we had origanally seen and bless her she put in a fantastic report. The long and short of it is our own doctor had'nt seen hubby so he did'nt know all the ins and outs of the reason he was claiming DLA
and with not seeing him in person he could'nt do a full report on him.Hubby got there in the end and was awarded Highest and both care and mobility.Sorry for rambling on a bit but unless you tell the doctors what you need from them they won't know.

Not all doctors are Socialist some doctors believe in the welfare cuts, so some doctors when asked would say I think you can work. I know a number of GP's and some consultants who think the welfare state should be removed and people should be forced to work, hence we have Labours WCA which came into being with the backing of some GP's. So if you see one of them it's highly unlikely your will get much from them.

I agree with treborc immagine your doctor being an Atos doctor aswell you have got a job on your hands getting a support letter from him or her

Some time back i applied for more care i was on low rate and the dwp looked at every thing and sent a doctor to visit me

Well i had a shock when i saw him he had long hair and a pony tail beeds on his wrists just like a hippy
after asking me some questions he said he was going to examine me and i said dont ask me to do anything that may hurt me
The first thing he done was bend my back bacwards i have spinal stenosis at three levels and that is the worse thing to do so i hit his hand back and told him he can not carry on examaning me he did not like it so i told him to get out

Well you can imagine what report he put in for me to the DWP when i got a copy of it i could not believe it he said i could walk over 200 mtrs he never seen me walk at all and the function test on my limbs wel you could not make it up nothing wrong from 1 to 3 he gave me all 1s
And so i went to the CAB and they said that they have had tha many complaint of this Quack he had been going round trying to get people of benefits and the person at the CAB said that he was against disabled people so she said was i prepared to put a complaint in against him i said true right i do i dont think the twat is an ATOS doctor anymore ther were several complaints about him i see him some times out and about but have noy been albe to talk to him i would give the twat a mouthful

Well I was first tested for DLA mobility in 1981 and it was awarded for three years. As I wanted to lease a motability car for three years I went back to be reassessed two years later and was given it for life. Hwever even I will be reassessed in 2013.

I applied for care component in about 1992 and was given the middle rate for life - this will also be looked at again in 2013. When I was asked to go for a medical I saw two doctors at the same time. I went in alone and just answered questions as honestly as I could. At the time my present doctor and a social worker also vouched for me.

I don't really see my doctor very often but I'm sure my medical file must be quite thick as I've had major neuro-surgery twice on my neck and base of my skull 30 years ago.

Now if anybody was to write to my doctor to ask about my medical condition I wouldn't expect him to know about my daily living needs or the disabling barriers I face. A far better plan is to write all the medical problems you have and list how these have an impact on your welfare and well being. It's like a refresher for you and him. Then you can make an appointment to see him and hand over the list. You're making his life easier - he'll transcribe your information into his own words and he wil be sending out the right message.

You aren't doing anything illegal as he'll have a basic understanding of your problem but not in-depth knowledge about the nitty gritty of your health problems - everything that counts will be in the 'detail' which you can supply.

Sadly ATOS and the Government will tend not to ask your GP, the idea is in the future we will never again get DLA for life or PIP we will be seen every two or three years no matter the disability or illness, that again was New labour.

But if you go back to the 1980's when DLA came out we would be seen every three years, but some doctors stated whats the use of seeing a person with no legs, they are not going to grow back, but of course now under the new medicals if you can use a wheelchair you will be deemed to be mobile, being mobile is the new name of the game.

I suspect Welfare will soon be a privilege not a right, DLA or PIP they believed should only be paid to about 200,000 people, the rest of us although disabled are mobile.

Did you hear Miliband saying we are out to fight the cuts, but not all the cuts welfare is something we will agree with the Tories, without doubt we are the target group, Hitler had the Jewish nation and the UK has the sick and the disabled.

yes it's sad but not unexpected because labour stated mobility are you mobile thats the secret, and Miliband said to day I will back welfare reforms. Not a lot left to vote for these days two Tory groups ...
