Question DLA form -putting ex husband's name on form as support as he gets DLA too?

Hello, I am new to the forum and would like help on this matter. My DLA is due to finish in October this year, I get low rate care and low rate mobility. I suffer with Psychotic depression and have been hospitalised in the past. I have now received a renewal DLA form, about 4 month's in advance.

Now, Myself and hubby split up over 2 years ago, he himself suffers with paranoid schizophrenia, we couldn't live together and now have a separate flat each.

He is very supportive to me as I can be so depressed I don't want to eat, wash just stay in bed.
On the renewal form for dla it asks if I get support and I have put his name and address down, then I thought he gets dla himself, am now feeling paranoid if this will have an effect on his dla?

We support each other, but he has been very good with me as I can't always get out the door.

In theory it shouldn't affect either of your claims, there are no rules against this. In practice it is hard to know how Decision Makers reach their conclusions, but I suspect they are more interested in what support you need and not who provides it, they probably don't even use the name and contact details unless they need to carry out further investigations.

Don't worry tuppence59 - your claim won't affect his DLA. Care and support doesn't have to be just about physical help, and plenty of people get DLA themselves and still care for someone else. In fact, if you got an increase to the middle rate of care, your ex could even look at claiming Carers Allowance - and you could do the same for him if he gets the middle or high rate of care. (Always best to get professional advice before doing this in case other benefits might be affected, and to make sure the carer/carers satisfy the criteria.)
Best of luck with your renewal.

    Unhappy

Thanks so much for replies,I contacted my local Welfare Rights and was shocked when they said due to cuts their office would be closing!!! That's awful isn't it, so we called into my local CAB and after an hour, my nerves were churning, this was to make an appointment and there was only me waiting to make an appointment. So had to leave and go home.
So what to do I don't know, just bin the form as it overwhelms me.

Don't give up Tuppence - try to make another appointment with CAB when you feel up to it. There isn't a time limit on returning your form anyway so take your time.
