I doubt there is a 'standard' loo in the world, lol Has anyone considered buying a loo seat riser and take it with them?

Thank you for this comment, which succinctly re-iterates what I was trying to get across

Yes, I took this one, http://www.renwoods.com/Toilet-Seat-...-1_31237_11552 , to Leipzig. I just about filled my suitcase. We felt obliged to remove it and re-attach on a daily basis so the hotel maid wasn't inconvenienced and this a a bit of a fiddly chore which I personally could not have accomplished but my husband was able to do. The riser made the seat height just about manageable but it was/is VERY low. It is quite a fancy hotel (which we prefer to use for lots of other reasons) but they don't seem to have any disabled friendly rooms other than just one which allows wheelchair entry.

    YW Phyzzezee.

Glad someone else shops at Scotts of Stow. That is a nice seat, cannot see us all carrying it daily though, lol. I think public places have a lot of work to do, but again it is hard to meet everyone's needs. Most rooms in hotels should be disabled-friendly in general though. I did see online a hotel the other week that makes a point of not having anything for any disabled person. Says it is not their job to meet our needs, we should know what we need & what we can do. They cannot provide it. That we have to take responsibility for our own needs, not them. I was tempted to contact them & complain, saying tell that to someone in a wheelchair who cannnot get up the stairs, etc.

Whilst on the topic of toilets there is a site called 'changing places' which gives accessible toilets whereabouts, so if you are off on a day out you could check where the nearest one is.

TY, that I must look up........... Interesting. It has some listed locally, but misses out at least 4 that are within 5 miles. There are at M&S, ASDA, Tesco, Morrisons, & The M Place. Not sure about KFC as never used theirs.

The point I am trying to make is that by providing much needed Disabled WCs that cater for the needs of primarily wheelchair users providers need to be aware that some people such as myself are still not actually being catered for. Fortunately the architect who desgned the recently re-furbished facility at Bradford University did understand the wider requirements and I only wish others would too, but if other disabled people even cannot understand and sympathise my difficulties then it's going to be an even longer battle than I first suspected.

I'm pleased that the provision of disabled loos has given you your social life back and I appreciate that one toilet will not suit all but please recognise and spare a thought for those of us who are not yet generally provided for away from our own homes.
I am a wheelchair user, and find a normal wc is just right. I once used a disabled wc that was made to high and myself and carer had a terrible struggle.

Then it does come down to personal need. This makes it harder to design a toilet that suits all disabled people.

Sounds like it may need up dating then, not sure if people can email in with information though.
