I am so pleased that you have opened again i really missed this site
my question is i have been granted indefinate awards on incapitaty, the also DLA some years ago. I have a load of problems including incontinince, when roughly does the indefinite awards on both of these change to the esa as i am very anxous about the dreaded letter coming every day. Many thanks

I don't know whether my advice will help.I too have the same worries with incontinence and am preparing if you like for my future ESA application i refer to the 'support group' one of the criteria is absence or loss of control leading to extensive evacuation of the bowel/bladder despite any aids and or adaptations used[i think this applies to loosing control at least once a week] so if you have medical support and depending on your needs you could qualify for the support group which means you will not lose the ESA AFTER 12 MONTHS and continue to recieve it.I do not know when the indefinite awards are looked at,please try not to worry.

Thankyou so much pam, i also have a disability called transverse Mylitis and austophytis, which means i have no feelings at all in my hands i cannot tell if things are hot cold wet or dry. and i also cannot feel anything relating to toilet needs so as you can see i am in a difficult position like yourself what we have is not a joke i think it is a life sentince will we have to attend these medicals because of what we have. Doctor sent me for colonoscopyand i have ibs very bad so he is very aware of my problems. Hope you are feeling a little better

Reassessment should begin in January & be rolled out countrywide beginning in spring 2011,the whole process is expected to be completed by 2014,this should begin area by area,though the sequence of order is not yet available.It is not known when individuals will be reassessed & each person will be informed by letter followed by a phone call from DWP.

There are some proposed changes to ESA next year.
There are proposed changes to DLA in 2013/14 in the form of a new medical assessment.DLA will take into account the experience from the introduction of the Work Capability Assessment for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).DLA will be outside the Universal Credit that is proposed and will be retained as a non-means tested cash benefit.

I am 54 and have bipolar+ severe arthritis..I have also just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia..I am in constant pain and I am also very unstable mentally..will I have to go to an assessment? I currently recieve income support and DLA.

If you receive Income Support on the grounds of illness or disability you will be sent a medical questionnaire (ESA50) to complete and return and this will be used to decide if you need to attend a Work Capability Assessment (Medical). You should get help to fill in the form from the CAB or a Welfare Rights Officer.
The new proposed medical for DLA is not expected to take place until 1213/14
Than you Ro for your reply. I have read the link and it says if you stay on income support the 'amount may change'. I am really worried about this because I live in private rented accommodation and need the money I get!

I think it is totally wrong that people who were told they had indefinate awards should lose their money after one year if they don't find a job. Peoples lives have been planned accordingly now they are in limbo. By all means retest them and put them in a relevent group...AND I MEAN RELEVENT not the so called crap test ATOS are doing at the moment. If you were promised an indefinate award it should stick, If you are fortunare enough to be offered a job and are well enogh to cope with it fair enough.
People could lose their homes over this..when a partner cannot cope with all the bills on their own.
