Your DLA review has nothing to do with proposed changes, which don't happen until 2013. You must send in the forms. If you don't your DLA will be stopped. If Welfare Rights can't help you try the CAB or look for any other local advice services - or - if there isn't anyone who can help - phone the DWP number on the letter that came with your form and explain your situation and ask them to help.
I'm sorry but the DWP will want the form back in order to assess whether or not they will continue to pay you. If you are unable to complete it they might be able to help.
Yes, you must send any forms back they send you. I know this, but even I made a mistake over a benefit I knew I could not claim. They sent me a form saying I might be able to get this benefit, if I wanted it then to fill in the form. As I knew I could not get it I did not bother as I cannot write well with my hands. They stopped some of my benefits because I did not send it back. The same counts with your DLA, & yes, the CAB can help you with this.

I think you have said in 3 posts that people should go to the CAB for help great in theory but a look around the forums will show that some people dont seem to do with CAB helps be aware that just because the CAB might be very good in your area in others it might not. Always ask someone local say from a support group for your illness if they have used the CAB and if they are happy with the job done.
The other big problem is due to funding cuts in many area CAB will give advice but not appear for you at tribunals anymore and last many people telephone CAB for days and cant get through. The CAB might be able to help but in some places dont hold your breath.
Yes, it can be hit & miss. Yes, there are funding cuts which limit the help they can give. I have found it harder, but they do give priority to disabled people in my area. I can even have someone come to my home to help me. There are other local agencies that can help people too.
If possible, always ask others for a referral & of their experiences, which is what some are doing by posting here. We all have different experiences, & I have just been posting some of mine.

The CAB in my area are notoriously bad. They have failed several claimants that I've been made aware of. Even using the specialised Macmillan Cancer charity (which works alongside CAB) , there are still major issues. Ironically, this particular CAB has one of their leading full time legal experts in residence. Story's similar to this have been repeated on benefit forums consistently over the last 3 to 4 years (pre cutbacks). Whilst anything is better then nothing, and each area is different. I would hesitate to recommend the CAB in my area. Harsh, but based on factual information.
My local CAB have said they cannot attend tribunals because legal aid does not fund this basic legal representation. Yet, I'm aware of the CAB attending tribunals in other areas.
CAB does not attend hearings here either. Getting an appointment over the phone is impossible. The queues are enormous. I am sure people would have some bad stories for Leeds too. One good thing about a site like this is you can get different opinions & stories, so you can make a more informed choice on your options.
Funny Andy! Simple fact is, without them neither my mother or myself would have benefits. We cannot fill it forms quickly, as our hands are so bad, & appealing is a nightmare. There are times I have used a solicitor against my housing office though, rather than the CAB. Of course, these days getting Legal Aid is harder than getting DLA!
