I am more than happy to sign such petitions, however, before I do I would like more information. Such as what discrimination there is, how are disabled students treated differently, what laws & policies are there & is the university breaking them, what action has been taken to resolve this, what has the university said about it's treatment of disabled people, etc?

    Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your reply. I had wanted to keep the post short so as not to bore people but I am more than happy to add additional information.

Murdoch University (in Perth, Western Australia) was established in 1975. Since then Murdoch University has prided itself on a dedication to social justice and equality, however this is far from the case. One example of this is the School of Psychology's stance on educating students with disabilities. The School of Psychology has repeatedly refused required supports for these students and has labelled them as "not normal" and as "financial burdens". In addition to this the School of Psychology has not allowed any students (who have made their psychological illness common knowledge) entrance into their honours programme. The Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) has put this into writing on numerous occasions, however the School of Psychology refused to change their biased standards and acknowledge what has been said by the accreditation body. We believe that all students should have access to the same quality of education.

Please let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know and I will try my hardest to help.

    Bek

Can you give some pointers to where we can see this info, or indeed, any comments by them relating to disabled students per say? I have looked up the uni but can't find any info on either?

Rbeecham, TY for the info. Such things are unacceptable these days. I wish someone who uses the term normal & not normal could actually define that. What they usually mean is someone who is not like them. Often they mean someone who they fear or see as a threat to their perceived idea of normality.

One thing i did ask was the laws relating to disabled rights. Also is this being fought by any laywers, disabled rights groups, equality groups, etc?

Here's the link for the uni Jay http://www.murdoch.edu.au/ but of course your question hasn't been answered and until I see proof won't be signing anything and to be honest even if we see proof, we live 10.000 miles away !
