    Answers to common questions

DLF is not able to respond to every individual question about Youreable that crop up in discussions in the forums above. However, we shall use this post to provide answers to the most common questions that people seem to be asking where possible.

    New forum policy
DLF’s new forum policy has been approved by our legal advisors. The clause relating to charges to remove posts refers only to posts made by people who have previously been banned for misusing the forum. It also only states that DLF reserves the right to charge to remove posts in these circumstances, not that we shall do so as a matter of course. Situations like this (which we sincerely hope will be very rare) will be dealt with on an individual basis.

    Old Youreable forum posts
At present unfortunately DLF is unable to provide access to the archive of Youreable.

    Moderators
As previously announced, only DLF staff will act as moderators of the forum. The role of these moderators will be solely to deal with reported posts that break our forum policy. These are the only type of moderators that DLF will be using.

    Other forums
At present the benefits forum will be the only forum made available in Youreable. This is so that we can see how it develops before making any further decisions. If people have questions about equipment, you can ask in our ‘Living made easy’ forum at http://forums.dlf.org.uk/forumdispla...Ask-a-question and one of our occupational therapists will respond if they are able to help. You may need to re-register as the two forums are separate.

A minor correction to the thread title might prevent confusing to replies to questions raised in the House of Commons by changing it to read "Answers to Common Questions" instead.

Other than that congratulations on providing the abreviations list in this section I am sure it will prove very handy especially for those new to disability issues.

    More answers to common questions:

Why are private messaging and visitor messaging disabled?
The old Youreable forums were closed down due to accusations of bullying and harassment of users being made (which took place before DLF took over the running of the forums). To ensure that DLF can continue to operate the forums without the possibility of any such accusations re-occurring, DLF has disabled private messaging and visitor messaging in the new Youreable forums.

    Moderation and 'censorship'
Forum posts are not pre-moderated (unless our automated anti-spam system is triggered by a post and passes it to the moderators) - they are reactively moderated, which means that if users see posts they think break the forum rules they can report them to moderators and if DLF's moderators agree they will take action. Since DLF re-opened the forums a number of posts have been reported - some of these did not break our forum policy so no further action was taken. However, a very small minority did break the rules and therefore were deleted and the user who posted them was notified of this decision. We will leave it up to users of the forum to decide for themselves if this constitutes censorship but this is they way that most forums operate.

    Other forums
Finally, obviously it is up to each individual user whether they wish to use this forum. We would like to think that Youreable will be a good place to come for advice but like any community it will not suit everybody. We hope that it is helpful but if you feel it does not meet your needs there are many other places on the internet that you can join a community and get advice. We hope that you find the right site/s for you.

Are you restricting the 'new' Youreable to just advice forums?

As it is just the Benefits section that you have currently running, is it not premature to suggest people use other sites at this juncture, given that a lot of registered members are from the original YA and are waiting to see what else DLF plans for the site before we all decide it's not for us!

It would be nice if you could give an outline as to what the other forums will be and what time-span you intend to give before deciding on opening these forum up?

    Thank you.

    Hi Jay

You will have seen by now that we have recently opened up five more forums, namely motoring, health, travel, work and news and general discussion. We will monitor how these go before making any decisions about any more forums that we might open up.
