    It may help, can't hurt.

    I am assuming you are already in social housing?

    I would have thought the best bet would be to sign up to your local social housing list with a particular view to a property exchange.

    You may well find someone who is looking to downsize from 2 beds to 1 bed to avoid the bedroom tax.
    (There are about 40 of these on my local SH site alone, looking to swap to a smaller place).

    With a 1 bed bungalow to offer I suspect you will have a choice of swaps.
