Thread: PIP mess.

    PIP mess.

It's my first started post after lurking for a while. I have also gained some fantastic info as some of the posters know their stuff.

    Where do I start?

I had never applied for benefits before and seemed to manage with BPD and severe anxiety with moderate depression but after i was made redundant in 2014, I seemed to go down hill. I was in and out of jobs as I was getting the sack for my behaviour. This was due to my illness as I was reacting the wrong way and generally just being a nasty person. Anyone with BPD will get the picture.

I started to breakdown in August and after seeking some help on how to apply for benefits, I decided to apply for PIP and ESA.

I sent PIP 2 form off via recorded delivery on 10th November and got an appointment for 19th December however, during this time my health declined and I was put under the care of the crisis team and i have a nurse who visits me once a day and a psychiatrist once a week. I also have a suppoirt worker.

I rang Capita and explained my situation stating I couldn't leave the house. My nurse also rang and my doctor wrote me a letter to say that I needed a home appointment, again all sent recorded delivery.

Here's were is gets bad. I rang today about my home visit and was told it's another assesessment centre???? They explained that i hadn't filled out a PIP2?? Hmmm, thank goodness I had sent this recorded. So I duly went back to DWP and gave them the tracking number and they said they will attempt to find it. Back to Capita and they said that's my last appointment and my case would be sent back to DWP if i don't appear.

This seems unfair as it's through no fault of my own. They said they needed to do the face to face in assessment due to no form. I also had my nurse call and she explained that im under acute care but they are not bugding.

Can anyone give me any help as to my next recourse?

The capita call handler was also extremely rude asking me how in was able to get to doctors and appointments. I felt it wasn't his place to ask me that. Blame game ensued.

Can you get someone to attend with you?, if so I would strongly suggest you attend, from what I've learned it isn't no where near as bad as you fear.
I know of about a dozen PIP cases near me (a Capita area) and MH claimants are always ask to attend an assessment centre, I thinks it's because they organise a specialist MH assessor to see clients enblock. But anyway of the ones I know about, they've all had successful claims and are happy with their awards.

And: with the level of treatment and support your receiving at present I can't see you've much to be concerned about, the people I know had nothing approaching what you have.

    Thanks for your reply.
My nurse assures me that she will go with Me, it's whether I am able to go outside is the problem. I haven't been out in three months.
I suppose looking at my message, I DO have a good support network.

I think I may be worrying because they don't have my PIP2 form, do you think this will matter or will they summarise on the day?
I also have a letter my psychiatrist wrote for Me, will they look at this on the day?

That’s a load of bull, there is no requirement stating that with no PIP2 form they have to do an assessment as the assessment centre. Complain to them and insist they’re breaching the equality act. You’ve had your care givers contact them, that’s the only requirement needed.

I would also ask if they have no PIP2 form, how do they know they need to see you?

I’ve found the frontline HCP company staff are generally useless, you want to ask for a mental health ‘champion’ to review your complaint and file.

    Thanks Rob.
I spoke with DWP earlier who confirmed the same. The guy I spoke to at Capita was also the one who asked me how I attended doctor and hospital appointments. It's being looked into by a manager at DWP as she said it was appalling how it was handled.

Im awaiting a call back this afternoon to see how it plays out.

    @jjezebel37,
My advice to you is, don't make problems for yourself where the is no need to. Up to now you have done everything correctly, if they have lost or mislayed your PIP2 that is they're problem not yours. If you have copies of it and the other Medical information you have, then take some along to the assessment.

If you're having problems leaving the house at moment, you could try wearing dark glasses and perhaps pulling a scarf up around your face, these sort of things can make you feel more secure.
Remember this assessment is only one part in the process to gain your award and it isn't the most important part either you've already done that bit by making your application (so thoroughly), best of luck.

    Thanks Jard,

I recieved the appointment today and the assessment is literally at the top of my Street, 30 seconds away so it's not so bad.

I was called this afternoon by a manager and a decision cannot be made without a PIP2 form so it's been resent.

Not trying to cause an argument, but surely in the middle of winter wearing sunglasses would attract attention, not deflect it?

    Not withstanding:
That, people wear dark glasses for many various reasons at any and all times and I myself use them frequently this time of year due to the low winter sun.
Your comment indicates an utter lack of understanding of Mental Health issues and the problems that they can give rise to, "not trying to cause an argument" though.

You should be okay with that then, please keep us informed of your progress.
