The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) delivers information, advice, training and learning events to guide older and disabled people to the practical equipment solutions to everyday living. It is the leading national charity providing information across multiple technology areas from wheelchairs to kitchen aids, bathroom adaptations to clothing, telecare to leisure equipment. We work in partnership with many other charities to support their members to find the information that is vital to maximising independence.
In addition to Youreable.com the charity runs the following specialist websites:
- Living Made Easy, the nation’s only comprehensive and impartial database of daily living equipment
- AskSARA, an award-winning online self-help guide used to determine the correct equipment to meet an individual’s specific needs
- DLF Data, a comprehensive database of daily living equipment used by thousands of health and social care professionals across the UK
- Moving and Handling People and DLF Training, a series of conferences, workshops and training courses for health and social care professionals that run throughout the year
The charity is now based in Wandsworth and recently merged with Shaw Trust. The organisation is undergoing a period of growth and investment to ensure our services become more easily accessible and relevant in this digital age.
We continue to provide a free telephone helpline on 0300 999 0004, staffed by experienced advisors offering free, impartial advice about mobility products or other types of daily living equipment for older and disabled people, offering information on where to buy or hire items and details of local organisations that can help.
In late 2009 the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) took over running Youreable and today is responsible for hosting and moderating the site day-to-day. The Forum currently has 300 active users who log in to the site at least once a week to answer questions and provide guidance and 60,000 visitors to the site each year.
